What is COP in refrigeration?
COP stands for coefficient of performance. COP is ratio of heat supplied or removed from any system to the work done in one complete cycle.
Equation of COP is Q/W
Where Q is heat supplied or removed from system and
W is total work done in one cycle. COP is directly related to efficiency of system.
Higher the COP, higher will be the efficiency. For a system having 100% efficiency, COP would be 1.
COP is a term generally used for refrigeration and heat pumps.
In terms of Refrigeration COP is ratio of cooling at the evaporator to the work done at compressor and in terms of heat pump COP is ratio of heat extracted from condenser to the work done at compressor.
